It is Friday 9/11. The last day of the week! TGIF
This day in many cultures is such a beautiful and powerful day as it marks the end of a gruelling work week and the day before the day of ‘rest’ – More on that later…
Freya, Frigg and then Latin Venus is the goddess of love, beauty, fertility, sex, war, peace, gold and seiðr (meaning the magical ability to foresee the future). This is, without a doubt, the most feminine day of the week so rightly so, it comes at the very end of the work week where after so much fight, structure and conflict that may have been needed to drive your work forwards towards success, in comes Friday where we are asked to conclude the week with grace, diplomacy and tie up lose ends in preparation for the week ahead
It is the day where you get to loosen up, review your week and step back from the fight to instead bring some balance so that come the end of the day, you can celebrate and be rewarded with a feast for all your hard efforts.
Because Freya is a goddess of love, magic, war, and independent power, working with her on a Friday is all about embracing your own worth, passion, and personal strength.
There is a tale that tells of Freya’s golden tears. That she was so in love with her husband that went missing. Her husband, Óðr or sometime odur was known to travel far and wide and often into the hidden realms. One day, he left and never came back so Freya went in search of him, asking everyone she encountered if they had seen him.
As her heart broke, she cried divine tears of amber and gold, so many tears they fell onto the earth and into the seas which is why we are blessed with so much gold in forms of rocks and drops of amber in the oceans as they come from the tears of Freya pining for her lost love.
The story shows that Freya is not just a goddess of beauty and luxury; she is a goddess who feels things very deeply. Her grief was so powerful that it created something beautiful and valuable that the world still treasures today.
Eventually, the myths say Freya did find Óðr far away in the south, and her joy was restored. But her scattered golden tears remained behind as a reminder of her love.
It is also interesting to mention that Óðr and Odin might actually be the exact same person. If you travel back to Wednesday (Wodensday, Odin day,) you will find the depictions of the all father god Odin, who was said to be Freyas husband. Odin was also a traveller into other realms and often known to disguise himself as a form of protection As he wandered the world for months or years at a time
Odin and Freya did not live together – How about that in modern times haha I have a post to follow about SHOULD WOMEN AND MEN SHARE THE SAME SPACES??? but while Odin rules Asgard from his high throne, fights giants, and gathers dead warriors in Valhalla, Freya lives in her own castle (Fólkvangr), rides in a cat-chariot, and cries golden tears for her missing Óðr, not Odin
So whether you are a man or woman reading this, on this day honoured to her, we are asked to get emotional about our stuff, feel the feels of the week rather than just force action or strategise tasks or comply with manual, physical labour rather, slow the week down.
Complete your tasks with grace pace. Turn up to work wearing something really freaking gorgeous, make efforts to place some luxury in the day instead of grind. Instead of building, GROW
Take an extended lunch break today. Clock off early. Go get an afternoon hair appointment. Have a glass of wine with lunch. Buy yourself of your loved one some flowers to bring home for the sweet weekend. Treat yourself to a fancy ass dinner tonight and a bar of chocolate to eat in bed later. Get the silks out, draw the curtains, light the candles, clean the house, prep for the weekend for tomorrow is a very different kind of day but today, let yourself get a little bougie!
As she was also the seer, a master of seiðr and is credited with introducing this prophetic, fate-weaving magic to the other gods, including Odin (remember, it all starts with women gifting this rite to men) she offers you the ability to foresee the week ahead so……..
When you work today, do so intuitively. Trust your gut! Make sure that any work you do today is done from your intuition and clair abilities so that whatever it is you are working on now and for the coming week ahead can be sensed rather than operationally thought or applied. Get creative, tap into your emotions, get crafty and allow the day to flow rather than function.
It is no surprise that the end of the weekly endeavours would be finalised by a woman, through the femenine archetypes and energies as let’s be fair, that’s where they started too and that after all the grim graft that has otherwise powered through the week, the final review will be one done in sophisticated style and sensory seduction!
So while yesterday, we wielded Thors hammer to get shit done, today, the hammer is put back in the locker room and instead we are bringing out the silks, we are wearing the gold, we are singing a softer song as we look forward to a decadent feast to celebrate our accomplishments later on today!
Tonight, I am going out for dinner to celebrate our best friends daughter turning 16. I already know I am having the rack of lamb followed by a sweet pistachio honey parfait and a glass of rose.
And in case you didn’t know, the Greek equivalent of Freya, Frigg, Venus is in fact Aphrodite where the myth tells that she was born on the shores of Paphos, Cyprus, island of copper where she rules our seas and fills our lands with roses, olive trees and honey galore!
I just so happen to live here on this very island, ON THESE VERY SHORES so this morning while I was on my morning walk, I stopped to pick some flowers to the Friday goddess and then I lit a candle and had a long conversation with her so that come the end of the day, i can go for my feast of love on our very love island

I also wrote the book ‘MIGHTY APHRODITE, that tells the tale of Aphrodite from the perspective of this island but at the moment, I am doing some edits on it so I will be re-releasing it shortly, hopefully by the beginning of October, which also just so happens to be Libra season (Freya / Venus / Aphrodite month) and I also happen to be a libra rising so very fitting…..Updates to follow for those interested…
But please spend today focused more on love than war, gentle grace than fast pace, softness than strive and bring some peace into your hearts so that you can kick back and enjoy the weekend in style!
I will finish this off with a story about cats, as Freya travels on a chariot pulled by cats. I am called Kat and am both a cat and dog person but my main cat, the queen of the cluster only tends to like me. She is a bit of a bitch to everyone else to be honest. This morning, she came to me as I started writing this and placed her forehead on my nose and stayed there softly for a good few moments before sloping away. A Friday blessing

And then: Freya was the 7th most popular girl name for babies in 2022. Went up to 5th in 2023. The most popular theophoric name in Britain by far but I doubt even 10% of the parents know who the goddess is! For goddes sake, remember!
