WHAT IS TALK THERAPY

Talk therapy, originally called “the talking cure” is one of the most effective forms of modern day mental health therapy. Through talk therapy, psychologists help to apply validated procedures to help people develop healthier, more effective habits and coping strategies. It allows psychologists to work collaboratively with clients living with mental health conditions.

Somatic talk therapy goes even deeper. It doesn’t just look at mental health. It looks at physical health, emotional health, spiritual health and mental health and ties it all together using EFT therapy to give you back the control.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Methods used throughout somatic therapy framework involve a lot of humanistic therapy, a form of treatment emphasizing a client’s capacity to make rational decisions and take steps for progress to develop to their maximum potential. Humanistic therapy include client-centred therapy, Gestalt therapy, and existential therapy. This allows the client freedom to discuss things from an ’empty chair’ perspective where the client self-guides the conversation and allows the movement of the conversation to flow according to their desired direction, which often, they don’t even know they’re doing. Empty chair allows for an almost hypnotic state where you tap into your subconscious mind and much like when you’re driving a car, you just know you’re driving and where you’re going without having to apply much thought. It steers itself. As do you.

During our sessions, we will look at approaches that attempt to address troublesome behaviours, thoughts, and feelings through the self-discovery of unconscious meanings, past experiences, and motivations. More specifically, treatment plans consist of a tight working relationship between myself and my clients. Clients can explore their underlying motivations, thoughts, dreams, and ideas through the therapeutic talk and EFT relationship and with the benefit of worksheets and take home summaries that you can read in your own time that might help you progress on your journey

And while we talk, there is the option for you to chose to use EFT methods that can help you further deepen your emotional channels. We can use guided tapping techniques that can often help you reach a clearer connection to unresolved issues and bring them to the surface to be examined. Once a week monthly session in person or online – £160

Twice a week monthly sessions in person or online – £240

6 WEEK BI-WEEKLY TALK SESSION BLOCK BOOKING IN PERSON OR ONLINE – £300

I do not diagnose as I would prefer to not label specific emotions or scenarios with anything more than what they are, simply (although not so simple) emotions, thoughts or experiences. I believe that through working lightly and gently with the body / brain and the emotions combined, through talking, tracking and deep conscious work we can master our own minds without the need for outdated and heavy weight psychotherapy that often ends up numbing the roots that need to be worked through in order to clarify the ROOT CAUSE of why you might feel a certain way. So what does this look like?

Mind-body therapy

Mind-body therapy focuses on the interaction between the brain, mind, body and behaviour. It is based on the belief that mental and emotional problems can cause changes in how we think and feel. This can contribute to the development or worsening of illness.

Mind-body therapy looks at different ways to help people improve their quality of life by reducing stress and improving coping skills.

Somatic Experiencing

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is an innovative, naturalistic approach to healing trauma and is extremely gentle and effective in releasing trauma symptoms such as anxiety, panic, depression and phobias. Often these symptoms result from our instinctive responses during a difficult situation. These responses sometimes do not resolve themselves easily when the threat dissipates. People are gently led through their natural processes to completion using SE techniques that release residual tension caused by stress or trauma.

EFT Therapy

EFT therapy is similar to acupuncture as it focuses on the meridian points to help restore balance to your body’s energy. It’s believed that restoring this energy balance can relieve symptoms that a negative experience or emotion may have caused. In Chinese medicine, meridian points are thought of as the channels or pathways of the body that energy flows through. These pathways help balance energy flow to maintain your health. Any imbalance can influence disease or sickness. While acupuncture uses needles to apply pressure to these energy points, EFT uses fingertip tapping, which is actually an even more incredible experience as it uses the power harnessed from your own energy to redirect it where needed. You can’t imagine how powerful your fingertips are and in using them to point your energy in a new direction you are allowing your brain to access your body’s energy that then sends signals to the part of the brain that controls stress. They claim that stimulating the meridian points through EFT tapping can reduce the stress or negative emotion you feel from any issue or past trauma, ultimately restoring balance to your disrupted energy.
