As a practitioner, I focus heavily on Somatic psychotherapy, Human existentialism and EFT therapy, which is a way of combining and utilising traditional Chinese medicine practices such as acupuncture and Qi Gong but through self application and methods where you can be in control of ‘tapping in’ to your own body, mind and the emotions that come to surface throughout the practice. The benefits of combined talk therapy, somatic movement and EFT is tremendous. You can feel so empowered and connected from simply learning a few techniques that you can continue on your own but with the benefit of having a guide so that you can talk through the Body/Brain processing as it unravels

Existential psychologists believe that it’s not only important to identify and reduce the symptomatology of mental illnesses, addictions, relationship issues, and other psychological issues, but to go beyond the symptoms, addressing how a person defines meaning, purpose, and a life well lived. It focuses on concepts that are universally applicable to human existence including death, freedom, responsibility and the meaning of life and instead of regarding human experiences such as anxiety, alienation and depression as implying the presence of mental illness, existential psychotherapy sees these experiences as natural stages in a normal process of human development and maturation.

I have always said, as is demonstrated in my programs and courses, that often in life, cycles repeat over and over in order to show us what must be learned so that we can ‘graduate’ and move onwards and upwards. Throughout the work that I do by listening, advising and guiding, all that I am really doing is holding your hand and letting you shine the light on the areas that you need to focus on in order to learn the lessons and become the whole you again!

I do not diagnose as I would prefer to not label specific emotions or scenarios with anything more than what they are, simply (although not so simple) emotions, thoughts or experiences and that it is up to each individual to have the ‘AHA moment’ through our work together to connect the dots so that you can see your own bigger picture yourself without the complication and confusion of medical psychiatric terms and their often heavy and misleading outcomes. I believe that through working lightly and gently with the body / brain and the emotions combined, through talking, tracking and deep conscious work we can master our own minds without the need for outdated and heavy weight psychotherapy that often ends up numbing the roots that need to be worked through in order to clarify the ROOT CAUSE of why you might feel a certain way. So what does this look like?
Mind-body therapy
Mind-body therapy focuses on the interaction between the brain, mind, body and behaviour. It is based on the belief that mental and emotional problems can cause changes in how we think and feel. This can contribute to the development or worsening of illness.
Mind-body therapy looks at different ways to help people improve their quality of life by reducing stress and improving coping skills.
Somatic Experiencing
Somatic Experiencing (SE) is an innovative, naturalistic approach to healing trauma and is extremely gentle and effective in releasing trauma symptoms such as anxiety, panic, depression and phobias. Often these symptoms result from our instinctive responses during a difficult situation. These responses sometimes do not resolve themselves easily when the threat dissipates. People are gently led through their natural processes to completion using SE techniques that release residual tension caused by stress or trauma.
EFT Therapy
EFT therapy is similar to acupuncture as it focuses on the meridian points to help restore balance to your body’s energy. It’s believed that restoring this energy balance can relieve symptoms that a negative experience or emotion may have caused. In Chinese medicine, meridian points are thought of as the channels or pathways of the body that energy flows through. These pathways help balance energy flow to maintain your health. Any imbalance can influence disease or sickness. While acupuncture uses needles to apply pressure to these energy points, EFT uses fingertip tapping, which is actually an even more incredible experience as it uses the power harnessed from your own energy to redirect it where needed. You can’t imagine how powerful your fingertips are and in using them to point your energy in a new direction you are allowing your brain to access your body’s energy that then sends signals to the part of the brain that controls stress. They claim that stimulating the meridian points through EFT tapping can reduce the stress or negative emotion you feel from any issue or past trauma, ultimately restoring balance to your disrupted energy.

The talk sessions will involve a lot of gestalt empty chair work that helps bring to surface any issues that are asking to be addressed and we will also use a lot of EFT work to help you further deepen in to the experience.
