CPD FOR VETS AND RVN’S

It’s funny, for a decade we have pushed the focus of CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT throughout the Veterinary and Medical fields with such a force and it would seem, according to all of our research and feedback from professionals within our field, it’s had quite the reverse effect.

From the inside of the HR fields, where we focus on HUMAN RESOURCES – AKA resources for….funnily enough, HUMANS, we have noticed that so much of the issues within the workplace seem to come from an over dominance of WORK LOAD, which sure, we get because…..You’re at work BUT:

We spend 80% of our functional time at work (aka most of our spare time is spent sleeping – There’s not a great deal of time for us to focus on anything but work) – And this is a huge part of the imbalance. In order for us to function at our best and really find space to LOVE our jobs and time spent within the work place, there has to be balance!

And while we think its GREAT to be fullly supporting professional advancements in the form of CPD as we all know learning and further ed is super important, in order to establish balance, we have to also consider the FLIP SIDE of the CPD SPECTRUM…..

CONTINUAL PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT!

What does that mean? Well, we have collaborated with other HR platforms to find out what they believe are the main issues within this paradigm and most say the same thing. That people as individuals also have priorities for themselves OUTSIDE of the work place but no real time or resources to action them and make them possible

Things like:

  • Personal interest studies: Topics like creative arts and writing, childcare, languages, cooking, gardening, physical health studies, chess, digital design, community support
  • Spending more time with family: Quality time with spouses, quality time with children (doing things that matter aka NOT homework), quality time with elderly family members, extended family etc
  • Spending quality time with SELF: Going for a walk alone, going to the gym, going for a swim, going on a trip, reading a book, preparing food and meals calmly, talking to friends, going to a community event, spending time in the garden, house and home

Sure, you can say we all to some extent manage to do some of these things on the regular but it always seems so rushed, so unconscious, just ticking boxes rather than really enjoying it

And most HR spaces now understand that if you as a Business want to be HIGH SCORED as a good place to work, you need to start investing in the flip side CPD of your staff because, if they dedicate all their time to working for you, you have to start also working for them!

BUT IT JUST WHAT IT IS- WORK IS WORK! WE ALL HAVE TO DO IT SO STOP MOANING AND TOUGHEN UP!

Nope, that’s a really old mindset and one that has created the levels of exhaustion, overwhelm, burnout and a lack of enthusiasm for work. Yes, we all have to work. We get that but, we also have to rest and play!

Yup, we’re all old enough to remember this….

It has been PROVEN than the more balanced and relaxed a person is, the better they perform in the work place and the more they show up for you!

If you burn out your employees with unrealistic clock watching schedules and menial KPI’s, tasks and obligations that you throw at them just because you feel you can (get your moneys worth etc) then you will burn them out. If you burn them out, they won’t perform well and your Business will suffer as a result
